This will be the last page I write about the EU Constitution Referendum in Spain. I will clear all references to it at Midnight, to show my respect to the Deliberation Day.

Let's start.
When I started talking about the referendum (on April 2004), I felt hopeful about the idea of that poll, and I quoted the following:
If the Constitution is to have real democratic legitimacy, then it ought to be put to the people of Europe in a Europe-wide referendum. Not to do so would simply reinforce the impression of a deep democratic deficit in Europe; it would also send a signal that Europe is not about the people but about the governing elites. (source)

As fas as I can see, the referendum will be a failure. Because most correspondece column letters, most lead articles, most blogs, say people will abstain from voting since they think this referendum is worthless.

This referendum is worth.
Shall you vote Yes or Not, you should thank the Convention “Working Group” on Direct Democratic Elements in the European Constitution, author of the last quoted words, his effort to persuade Spanish government against its usual refraction against popular polls. You have been given the opportunity to show your opinion.

Because, for once, your opinion matters. Have in mind you are neither asked about President Zapatero, nor asked about European Union. Since it does not deal with supporting or punishing the government or the international organization. It deals with voting for, or aginst, the Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe.

That treaty has many pros and cons. It is limited, but inTiene un alcance limitado, pero inconceivable. It is dark and blind, since it's made from light. For that, you should weight carefully the direction of your vote, using the ternary-code of Yes, No and Blank. Whatever you vote, you'll be making history, history as it has never been made since the Fathers wrote the first modern Constitution: that of the so-blamed, so-glorified, USA. Europe can turn into a hell, as they are. Europe can reach glory, as they have.

And now, to decontaminate you from Europeism, go to an American site, as Adi's ship, make a hot chocolate, and go to sleep.

Sweet dreams and wonderful deliberation day.
